A typographic exploration using layout and contrast to let type carry the message rather than imagery....

The project came from an assignment to take on a real environmental issue through publication design. Air pollution felt like the right subject because it’s invisible, and the challenge was making something invisible feel heavy on the page. The whole approach was built around seeing how much type alone could communicate without leaning on photos or illustration.

Research into air quality data, particulate matter, and pollution history gave each spread something real to work with. The typographic decisions came directly from that, using scale, density, and tight spacing to make the reader feel the topic rather than just look at it.

It finished as a 6" × 9" saddle-stitched booklet on uncoated stock, photographed on granite to show the physical quality of the final print.
